The RENFE 7900/279 series The 279 (ex 7900) locomotives were the first electric locomotives of the large family of Japanese locomotives ordered by RENFE. This series of 16 units, acquired between 1967 and 1968, was designed for use on lines with different voltages, hence its dual voltage equipment, suitable for running at 1500 and 3000V indistinctly. The results were so good that the company subsequently ordered multiple orders for similar locomotives, giving rise to the complete 289 and 269 series.
