Apart from businesses operating in large-scale agriculture, civil engineering, and landscaping, municipal operations rely on Krampe’s Halfpipe to a steadily growing extent. WIKING has realised the HP20 in a way that lets the functional miniature make a meaningful contribution to multi-faceted themes in the 1:87 scale. Following their motto “Quality on Wheels”, the Krampe corporation from Coesfeld-Lette in the Münsterland region has been producing body tippers for agricultural and forestry use as well as for the construction industry, municipal operations and landscaping business since 1983. Krampe adopted the halfpipe body from the lorry sector as it allows for a structure with a rather harmonious formal design. As it eliminates the need for a side and cross member, the “halfpipe” boasts a lower tare weight than the conventional tipper skip. The reduced weight increases the payload of the vehicle – and affords the prototype a permissible gross weight of 20 tonnes. The advantages in day-to-day operations are obvious: Bulk goods slide at a shallower angle along the sides of the skip wall. This eliminates the risk of the skip becoming dented when hauling such “big chunks” as rocks and boulders. Another advantage is that the round shape of the skip keeps bulk goods from sticking to the corners. WIKING’s replication of the hydraulic cylinders on the halfpipe’s front wall is just as true to the original as all other details – from the chassis to the skip. Yet another testimony to the model’s supreme level of functionality in the 1:87 scale.
